Launch of 2018 C'Wealth Games baton relay

(13 Mar 2017) LAUNCH OF 2018 COMMONWEALTH GAMES BATON RELAY

Queen Elizabeth II launched the 2018 Commonwealth Games baton relay on Monday, in a colourful ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

The baton will now make its way around nations of the Commonwealth before arriving in Australia's Gold Coast where the 2018 games are set to take place.

The Queen presented the baton to Australian cyclist Anna Meares who proceeded to join forces with her one-time British cycling rival, Victoria Pendleton, as they walked the baton along the Mall.

The baton launch coincides with Commonwealth Day which will see the Queen attend a service at Westminster Abbey later on Monday.
